"Rambo Origin Film Announced by Sisu Director"

by Savannah Jun 02,2025

If you're a fan of action-packed films, get ready for some nostalgia with the announcement of a Rambo prequel in the works. The project, titled John Rambo, is being developed by Sisu and Big Game director Jalmari Helander, according to Deadline. Millennium Media, renowned for hits like the Expendables and the Has Fallen series, is spearheading this new venture, which will premiere at the Cannes market—a hotspot for upcoming films seeking investment or distribution deals.

Millennium Media previously produced two Rambo films: 2008's Rambo and 2019's Rambo: Last Blood. While details about John Rambo's storyline remain scarce, it's confirmed that the movie will be set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the 1982 classic First Blood. Casting decisions are yet to be announced, though Deadline mentions that original Rambo star Sylvester Stallone is aware of the project but isn't involved at this stage.

The screenplay for John Rambo is penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, who also worked on The Mauritanian and Black Adam. Filming is scheduled to commence in Thailand starting October.

Director Jalmari Helander's recent success with the carnage-filled 2023 WWII action film Sisu—wherein he transformed a retired commando into a relentless force against Nazi forces—demonstrates his capability to deliver high-octane action sequences. This gives fans good reason to anticipate what he'll bring to the Rambo universe.
