Retro Royale mode brings back old-school charm to Clash Royale

by Daniel Apr 15,2025

Supercell is turning back the clock with the introduction of the Retro Royale Mode in Clash Royale, bringing the game back to its 2017 roots. This nostalgic mode will be available for a limited time, from March 12th to March 26th, and it promises exciting new rewards for players. As you dive into the Retro Royale experience, you'll climb a 30-step ladder, collecting Gold and Season Tokens along the way.

In line with Supercell's strategy to keep their top releases fresh, as seen with the recent decision to remove Troop Training times in Clash of Clans, Clash Royale is also getting a significant update to celebrate its latest anniversary. The Retro Royale mode, showcased in a trailer, aims to recreate the game's launch meta, limiting the card pool to 80 cards. Players will engage in fierce battles on the Retro Ladder, vying for exclusive rewards as they ascend through the ranks.

The competition intensifies as you progress, and upon reaching the Competitive League, you'll be assigned a starting rank based on your progress on the Tropy Road. From there, your performance in Retro Royale will determine your climb up the leaderboard, allowing you to showcase your timeless skills.

While it may seem ironic to introduce a retro mode right after discussing the importance of keeping games feeling fresh, there's a clear distinction between something feeling dated and something evoking nostalgia. With the rewards on offer, it's hard to imagine fans not wanting to dive into this nostalgic experience.

Keep in mind, by competing in both the Retro Ladder and the Competitive League at least once, you'll earn a special badge for each, adding to the allure of this limited-time mode.
