Rumor: Naughty Dog's Next Game Will Be Similar to a FromSoftware Title

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to offer players a significantly enhanced level of freedom, setting it apart from the studio's earlier works. Inspired by the acclaimed Elden Ring, the developers are keen on integrating similar open-world exploration mechanics into the game. According to journalist Ben Hanson, the narrative unfolds on a vast single planet, where players will unravel the enigma of a lost civilization and delve into the mysteries of an emerging religion, which plays a central role in the storyline. While the extent to which the game will adhere to the traditional open-world formula remains uncertain, it's clear that the developers are steering away from the linear gameplay that marked their past projects.

A distinctive feature of The Heretic Prophet is that it marks the studio's debut where players navigate the game world solo, devoid of companions or allies. As Neil Druckmann explains, the objective is to evoke a profound sense of solitude within an uncharted universe, while simultaneously exploring deep themes of faith and religion. The narrative is set in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, which has been isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is on this mysterious planet that bounty hunter Jordan Moon lands, driven by her mission.

Druckmann further reveals that the game's development drew inspiration from iconic titles such as Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This influence suggests a shift towards a narrative style where players must actively piece together the story's fragments, moving away from conventional hints and guidance.

Announced at TGA 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet still awaits a confirmed release date, leaving fans eagerly anticipating more details on this ambitious project.
