Saros: Housemarque's Next Big Hit Post-Returnal, Coming 2026

by Bella Apr 17,2025

Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the highly anticipated sequel to their 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Set to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5 and enhanced for the PS5 Pro, Saros features Rahul Kohli in a starring role.

Showcased during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros distinctly embodies the Housemarque aesthetic. Players will step into the shoes of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a mission to uncover truths on a treacherous, ever-changing planet. This world is shrouded in mystery, haunted by an eclipse and dominated by at least one formidable entity. The game's theme of "come back stronger" and its display of cascading fireballs hark back to the roguelike and bullet-hell elements fans loved in Returnal.

PlayCreative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. While it introduces a fresh single-player experience, it builds upon the foundation laid by Returnal's third-person action mechanics.

However, Saros introduces significant gameplay differences from its predecessor. According to Louden's post on the PlayStation Blog, a key feature in Saros is the ability to acquire permanent resources and progress. Although the world of Saros shifts with each player death, players can now permanently upgrade their weapons and suits, adding a new layer of strategy and progression.

Fans can look forward to more details later this year, as Housemarque plans to reveal an extended gameplay demonstration.
