"The Last of Us Season 2 to Include Brutal Game Cuts"

by Dylan May 07,2025

Fans of HBO's adaptation of *The Last of Us* are in for a treat as Season 2 will include content that was cut from the original *The Last of Us Part 2* video game. According to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series will revive "pretty brutal" content, including some of the Lost Levels that were partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster. These levels, named Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer a mix of calm and intense moments. In Jackson Party and The Hunt, Ellie enjoys a party and tracks a bleeding boar, respectively, while Seattle Sewers plunges her into a harrowing chase through monster-infested tunnels.

The inclusion of this cut content is expected to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Druckmann expressed excitement about the brutal scenes and teased the introduction of a "pretty prominent" character, only mentioned in the game, akin to the approach taken with Frank in Season 1. Season 2 will introduce several new faces, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. The casting of Catherine O'Hara in a mysterious role adds an intriguing layer of anticipation.

With the premiere of Episode 1 of Season 2 scheduled for April, fans won't have to wait long to see these mysteries unfold. However, some questions may linger as HBO plans to extend the coverage of *The Last of Us Part 2* beyond a single season. Unlike Season 1, which encapsulated the entire first game, Season 2 will only cover part of the sequel's story. Co-showrunner Craig Mazin has noted that *The Last of Us Part 2* contains a significantly larger narrative, and while Season 3 isn't confirmed yet, Season 2 is designed to end at a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
