Konami's Silent Hill f Gets 18+ Rating in Japan

by Jack Jan 13,2026

Silent Hill f marks a first for the franchise by receiving an 18+ rating in Japan.

The recently released Japanese trailer conspicuously displays the game's mature content ratings: Mature in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and Japan's strictest CERO:Z classification.

While these ratings could potentially change during development, Automaton notes this represents a significant departure for the series—previous Japanese-developed titles like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room all carried CERO:C ratings (15+), while Western-developed entries typically ranged between CERO:C and CERO:D (17+).

PlayInterestingly, even Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 Remake maintained the franchise's traditional CERO:C rating in Japan despite receiving Mature (17+) ratings internationally.

Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission presentation focused exclusively on Silent Hill f—the first new mainline installment in 13 years. Initially announced in 2022, the game transports players to 1960s Japan through the perspective of Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with societal pressures. The narrative comes from Ryukishi07, acclaimed creator of the When They Cry visual novel series.

The cinematic trailer showcases Hinako in various states of distress—bloodied, wounded, and clad in a tattered school uniform. While gameplay footage remains scarce, the preview offers glimpses of unsettling creature designs and what appears to be a floral-themed Otherworld alternative to the series' signature rust-and-metal aesthetic.

No release date has been announced for Silent Hill f. The presentation also contained no updates regarding No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall project.
