Skull and Bones Year 2 Unveils Land Combat and Major Content Updates

by Caleb Apr 07,2026

Ubisoft is charting an ambitious path for Skull and Bones Year 2, aiming to make it the pirate multiplayer game’s most expansive yet with new modes, ships, a Kraken, and the highly anticipated land combat feature.

Ubisoft revealed its roadmap for the upcoming year of updates in a dedicated Year 2 showcase yesterday. The presentation highlighted a wealth of new content, with Season 3: Guts and Glory introducing the long-awaited land combat feature fans have craved since the game’s debut last February.

In Season 3, launching this fall, players will step ashore to engage in swordfights and wield firearms in dynamic land-based battles. This Rogue Warlord update will bring players to sandy beaches and murky caves to recruit elite crew members called Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of the feature, though full details will emerge closer to release later this year.

While land combat steals the spotlight for Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed more to explore throughout 2025. Season 1, Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, introducing a loot-boosting item ascension system, tougher World Tiers, a new medium Schooner ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, arriving summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and massive Frigate ships, while Season 4: Eye of the Beast, set for winter, will unleash the Kraken, Hunter’s Guild, and a large Corvette ship.

For those eager to jump in, Skull and Bones will offer a free weekend from April 17–21, allowing players to test the pirate PvP experience and purchase the game at a discounted price (to be announced).

Skull and Bones launched February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft hasn’t shared detailed sales figures for its pirate adventure, it noted “record player engagement” shortly after launch. Notably, the game’s release also sparked a 200% surge in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag players.
