Skyblivion: Oblivion Fan Remake in Skyrim Engine Aims for 2023 Release

by Zoe May 14,2025

Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to release in 2025. In a recent developer update stream, the volunteer mod team behind this project reaffirmed their commitment to this timeline, showcasing the extensive work they've accomplished so far. Skyblivion is not just a simple remake; it's a massive modding project that has consumed years of dedication from its creators.

The team expressed optimism about meeting their 2025 target, stating, "We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation." This dedication to their craft is evident in the detailed enhancements they're making to the original game, from ensuring that unique items truly stand out to revamping boss encounters to make them more formidable. The infamous "A Brush with Death" quest was highlighted in their livestream, showcasing the stunning painted world they've created.

However, the project's future may be influenced by the long-rumored, official remake of Oblivion. Earlier this year, alleged details of an Oblivion remake emerged, suggesting significant changes to combat and other elements. Microsoft, the parent company of Bethesda, declined to comment on these rumors to IGN. Moreover, documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial in 2023 inadvertently revealed an Oblivion remaster alongside other projects, some of which have since been released, while others like the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters remain unconfirmed.

Given Bethesda's history of embracing the modding community across their titles, from older games to the recent Starfield, the Skyblivion project could face challenges if an official Oblivion remake is announced. The team hopes to avoid the fate of projects like Fallout London, which encountered obstacles before its launch. As the 2025 release date approaches, the modding community eagerly anticipates the realization of this fan-made dream.
