On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will be launching worldwide on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this exciting news was a fresh trailer that provided fans with a glimpse into the game's vibrant gameplay.

Sonic Rumble marks the franchise's first venture into multiplayer party gaming, where up to 32 players can compete across various challenging levels and game modes. Sega describes the experience as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the notorious Dr. Eggman, tackling perilous obstacle courses and battling in hazardous arenas!"

Given its free-to-play model, there were concerns about potential pay-to-win elements. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these worries in an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September. He reassured fans by stating, "Our focus is on creating a casual system where players can purchase desired items directly for a small, fixed fee, avoiding the unpredictability of gacha systems."
