Sony has announced movies based on Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn

Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are bringing the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. The announcement was made at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, who stated, "We're thrilled to announce the commencement of development on a film adaptation of our incredibly popular game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat sequences in this cinematic adaptation.

Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically-acclaimed shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. Its phenomenal success is undeniable, achieving the status of PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. The game's popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.

Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures—the same studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into this project: "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn film, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment."
