Sony Pulled GTA 6 Parody Game Grand Taking Ages From the PlayStation Store — but It’s Now Cleared for Release on Steam

by Mila Mar 03,2025

The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, Grand Taking Ages, have successfully launched the game on Steam after Sony removed it from the PlayStation Store. This management simulator, where players helm a game development studio, initially raised eyebrows with its AI-generated art and satirical take on the long-awaited GTA 6.

The game's brief stint on the PlayStation Store, complete with a May 2025 release date and wishlist option, ended quickly following Sony's intervention. However, after significant revisions, Valve approved Grand Taking Ages for Steam.

Grand Taking Ages is now available on Steam.

Key changes included removing the "VI" from the title, redesigning the logo, and revising descriptions to clearly distinguish it from Rockstar's GTA 6. While the updated art still bears a resemblance to GTA's style, it's noticeably different. The game continues to utilize generative AI, specifically for voiceovers, a fact disclosed on the Steam page in accordance with Valve's AI policies. The Steam page description now reads:

Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of "creative" deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!

The developer, Violarte, adopted a proactive approach with Valve, discussing the game's concept before submission, ensuring alignment with their guidelines. They cite other projects, such as Grand Theft Hamlet, as examples of acceptable GTA parodies.

The game's trailer utilizes AI-generated voiceovers.

Violarte has now requested reinstatement on the PlayStation Store, highlighting the successful Steam launch as evidence of the game's revised compliance. The contrasting experiences with Sony and Valve highlight the different approaches to content curation, with Steam's more open policy allowing for a wider range of games, including those utilizing AI. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated GTA 6 is set for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025.
