"Next Need for Speed Release Delayed Indefinitely"

EA's Executive Vice President Vince Zampella recently provided an update on the current status of the Need for Speed series. It has been over two years since the release of NFS Unbound, and since then, EA has not made any new announcements regarding the franchise. The reason for this silence is that Criterion Games, the developer behind Need for Speed, is currently focused on the development of the next Battlefield game.

According to Zampella, EA's primary focus at the moment is on the new Battlefield, which is being crafted with a significant emphasis on player feedback. The project is a collaborative effort involving four different studios, and EA is fully committed to its development. Zampella has expressed that the team is determined to avoid the missteps seen with Battlefield 2042, which faced heavy criticism at launch due to its controversial gameplay decisions. This player-centric approach is also being applied to new content for NFS Unbound.

It appears that EA plans to revisit Need for Speed only after the release and initial support phase of the upcoming Battlefield game. This delay might actually benefit the NFS franchise. Recent titles have left fans feeling underwhelmed, and taking the time to listen to player feedback and build anticipation could lead to a successful reboot. Allowing fans time to forget past disappointments and rekindle their nostalgia for the series could be a strategic move.

In the meantime, fans should not anticipate any new Need for Speed announcements in the near future.
