Star Wars Hunters Ends Service After Brief Run

by Aaliyah Nov 13,2025

Star Wars Hunters publisher Zynga has announced the game's complete shutdown just nine months after launch, effectively canceling its planned Steam release.

The free-to-play team-based arena game, developed by NaturalMotion, debuted on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices in June 2024. IGN's Star Wars: Hunters review scored it 7/10, noting: "Star Wars: Hunters delivers lighthearted PvP action reminiscent of a Death Star celebration - entertaining initially but lacking long-term appeal."

This assessment proved accurate as Zynga confirmed the final content update will arrive April 15, with servers closing permanently on October 1, 2025.

"We recognize this news may disappoint players," Zynga stated. "This difficult decision reflects our commitment to quality. We sincerely appreciate the community's passion and will provide updates throughout the transition."

Key upcoming milestones include:

  • March 25: Season 5 extended by three weeks with recycled events and shop bundles
  • April 15: Final update launches featuring new Support Hunter Tuya (free for all players)
  • October 1: Server shutdown

The announcement makes no mention of the planned PC version, whose Steam page now displays a "no longer available" notice.

This marks Zynga's first foray into console publishing and what would have been its PC debut. "The mobile and Switch success motivated our PC expansion," explained Yaron Leyvan, Zynga's EVP of Games, in November.

While Hunters concludes, other Star Wars projects continue development, including Respawn's Jedi sequel and Bit Reactor's strategy title set for reveal at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
