Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you can encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This creature is equipped with the lightning element, making it immune to it. However, it’s quite vulnerable to other elements, especially water and ice. The best place to strike this boss is its head, which has a 4-star weakness. Another effective location to attack is the dragon’s wings, which have a 3-star weakness.

You’ll want to avoid attacking its torso since it’s quite sturdy. Given how challenging it is to hit its head, targeting its tail can be a viable alternative. Hitting the legs is not recommended as they are well-protected. For status ailments, you can use everything except Stun and Paralysis. Since this dragon wields the lightning element, attempting to stun it would be futile.

Use a Flash Pod

A key strategy to swiftly take down Rey Dau is to use a Flash Pod. This tool will temporarily stun the monster, providing you with a window to land some critical hits. When the dragon unleashes its lightning attack, seize the opportunity to strike its horn, causing significant damage. Make sure to activate Focus Mode to spot the horns glowing bright red.

Wear Element-Resistant Gear

If you’re finding it tough to survive, equipping gear that boosts your resistance to elements is crucial. The Hope Armor set is highly recommended due to its Divine Blessing skill, which reduces damage. It also offers resistance to Lightning and Fire damage, making it perfect for this fight. Additionally, consider eating a meal that enhances your elemental resistance.

If dodging attacks is a challenge, stick close to Rey Dau’s legs in Monster Hunter Wilds. The monster primarily attacks the areas in front and behind it, so staying near its legs minimizes your chances of being hit.

Pay Attention to the Environment

During the battle, Rey Dau will frequently change positions. While fighting in the open plains, utilize the Vine Traps on the lone tree to stun the monster briefly. However, exercise caution when the dragon returns to its nest. Here, it unleashes a follow-up lightning attack that can easily stun you. Avoid rushing in this area to prevent getting zapped to death.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds

In addition to battling the monster to the death, you can earn rewards by capturing Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds. To do this, reduce the dragon’s health until it's nearly dead. Look for the skull icon near the monster’s icon on the mini-map. When it appears, lay down a trap to catch the monster.

Since Rey Dau is a lightning dragon, Shock Traps won't work. Instead, use a Pitfall Trap for a successful capture. Follow up with a Tranquilizer to ensure the creature cannot escape. You only have a few seconds to act, so be prepared.
