Chun-Li Cast in Street Fighter Film

by Mila Jan 15,2026

Legendary Pictures' live-action Street Fighter film has reportedly cast Callina Liang to play the iconic fighting game character Chun-Li.

According to Deadline, the actress has officially signed on for the female lead, signaling strong momentum as the Street Fighter movie advances towards its scheduled March 20, 2026 release.

Liang started her acting career in the 2022 series Tell Me Everything before appearing in Foundation in 2023. She later featured in two 2024 films: Steven Soderbergh’s Presence and J.C. Lee’s Bad Genius.

In Street Fighter, Liang will introduce her take on Chun-Li to a wider mainstream audience. She will star alongside previously announced cast members, such as Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck. Further plot specifics and the casting of other Street Fighter characters have not yet been revealed.

Capcom and Legendary began development on this new live-action Street Fighter project in April 2023, hiring Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou around that period. Although initially promising, the brothers left the project one year later; their exit was attributed by The Hollywood Reporter to scheduling conflicts.

Legendary remained committed to the Street Fighter movie despite this change, confirming a spring 2026 release date in June 2024. The studio also secured a new director, Kitao Sakurai, known for The Eric Andre Show, Twisted Metal, and Bad Trip. Capcom and Legendary are keeping to the current timeline as more actors join the production.

More details about the Street Fighter movie, including how Liang’s Chun-Li fits into the storyline, will be revealed in the coming months. Meanwhile, the latest video game in the series, Street Fighter 6, surpassed 5 million copies sold earlier this month.
