"Super Mario World" Sequel Title Briefly Appears in NBCUniversal Press Release
It seems that we might already know the name of the sequel to *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* thanks to an early slip-up by NBCUniversal in a press release. The document, meant to highlight upcoming content for their Upfront Showcase, inadvertently included *Super Mario World* among the films slated for release on Peacock, alongside other Universal Pictures and Illumination productions.
The mention of *Super Mario World* quickly spread across the internet, prompting Universal to amend the press release and scrub any reference to Mario. The original text had listed *Super Mario World* alongside *Shrek* and *Minions*, which are known to be *Shrek 5* and *Minions 3*, respectively. This suggests that *Super Mario World* might not be the final title for the Mario sequel but rather a placeholder or working title.
Despite this, *Super Mario World* is a more specific name compared to a generic *Super Mario* or *Super Mario Bros.*, which lends some credibility to the possibility of it being the actual title. Given the context and history of the Mario franchise, *Super Mario World* as the title for the next installment would indeed be fitting.
