"Switch 2 GameCube Controller Compatible with Non-GameCube Games, Potential Issues Noted"
Nintendo has provided clarity on the compatibility of its newly unveiled GameCube controller with the Nintendo Switch 2, noting that there might be "issues" when using it for games beyond the retro GameCube library. The controller was introduced during the recent 60-minute Nintendo Direct, where it was specified that it is designed primarily for use with "Nintendo GameCube" titles available through the Nintendo Switch Online service.
In a statement to Nintendo Life, Nintendo reiterated that the GameCube controller is intended for playing games within the Nintendo Classics collection. While it may be possible to use the controller with other Nintendo Switch 2 games, players should be aware of potential limitations. "Since it doesn’t have all the buttons and features found in other controllers that can be used with the Nintendo Switch 2 system, there may be some issues when playing other games," Nintendo explained. Additionally, the company confirmed that the GameCube controller is exclusively compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 and cannot be used with the original Nintendo Switch.
