"Switch 2 Launch Games: Predictions Revealed"

by Savannah May 02,2025

As the Nintendo Switch 2's launch looms on the horizon, the excitement about the potential launch day lineup is palpable. While official details remain under wraps, let's take a fun guess at what might be in store for us when the new console hits the shelves. Nintendo boasts a rich catalog of iconic titles, making some predictions more probable than others. Here's what we're hoping to see on day one of the Switch 2.

3 ImagesWe might not get all of these games on launch day, but even a few would make the Switch 2's debut unforgettable. Here’s what we think (or more accurately, hope) Nintendo has planned for us.

Mario Kart 9

A decade has passed since Mario Kart 8 graced the Wii U, evolving into the definitive karting experience thanks to the Switch's deluxe edition and numerous DLCs, pushing the track count to an impressive 96 circuits. Given its status as the best-selling game on both the Wii U and Switch, a new installment would undoubtedly be a hit.

While rumors of Mario Kart 9 being in development since 2022, with a promised "new twist," have circulated, Nintendo has yet to confirm its existence officially. We're eager to see what innovations it brings to the table and are hopeful for a launch-day release on the Switch 2. Mario Kart has consistently proven to be a system seller, and a new entry could set the stage for another decade of karting fun.

New 3D Super Mario

Given the legacy of games like Super Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy, it's surprising the original Switch only received one new 3D Mario title, Super Mario Odyssey, in 2017. The lack of substantial DLC for Odyssey left fans wanting more.

The launch of the Switch 2 seems the perfect moment for a new 3D Mario game, featuring inventive level designs, unique abilities, and countless collectibles. While hoping for both a new Mario Kart and a 3D Mario game on launch day might be ambitious, it would signal Nintendo's commitment to its flagship franchises. At the very least, a staggered release within a few months would be welcome.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid fans have been eagerly awaiting Metroid Prime 4 since its announcement at E3 2017. After years of silence and a development shift from Bandai Namco Studios to Retro Studios, the game reemerged in 2024 as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Its gameplay reveal trailer hinted at a level of polish that might necessitate the Switch 2's capabilities.

We're hopeful that this long-awaited title will finally see the light of day on the Switch 2's launch, offering fans a stunning continuation of the beloved series.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom Enhanced

Two of the Switch's most acclaimed titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, are prime candidates for the Switch 2. We're hoping for backward compatibility with a performance boost, but enhanced versions leveraging the Switch 2's rumored power would be even better. Imagine exploring Hyrule in stunning 4K without any framerate issues.

Ring Fit Adventure 2

Nintendo often surprises us with unique titles at console launches, as seen with games like 1-2 Switch and Arms. Ring Fit Adventure, a later release on the Switch, combined fitness with RPG elements to great success, selling over 15 million copies. A sequel could showcase new, innovative features of the Switch 2 and its controllers, making it a fitting addition to the launch lineup.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

While the original Switch couldn't handle Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake, the Switch 2 might be up to the task. Launching with this critically acclaimed game would showcase the console's prowess and honor the game's history, which began on the GameCube.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Though a bit of a stretch, considering Doom and Doom Eternal's successful Switch ports and Microsoft's openness to cross-platform releases, Doom: The Dark Ages could find its way to the Switch 2. With little revealed so far, a launch-day surprise would be thrilling for fans eager to "rip and tear" on the go.

The Haunted Chocolatier

Stardew Valley's success on the Switch makes the launch of ConcernedApe's The Haunted Chocolatier on the Switch 2 an exciting prospect. This chocolate shop sim with action-RPG and ghostly elements could be a perfect fit for the new console. Although a launch-day release seems unlikely due to developer Eric Barone's recent focus shift, a release within the launch year would be delightful.

Earthblade

As a follow-up to the beloved indie hit Celeste, Earthblade from Extremely OK Games is eagerly anticipated. With its 2D explor-action gameplay and beautiful pixel art, a 2025 release window could align perfectly with the Switch 2's launch, offering fans another indie gem to enjoy.
