SwitchArcade Round-Up: Reviews Featuring ‘Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku’, Plus New Releases, Sales, and Good-Byes
Farewell, dear readers, and welcome to the final regular SwitchArcade Round-Up for TouchArcade. This concludes my years of contributing these articles. While a special edition with embargoed reviews will follow next week, this marks the end of an era. We'll be saying goodbye with a substantial roundup, including game reviews from Mikhail and Shaun, new release summaries, and the usual sales lists. Let's enjoy one last ride!
Reviews & Mini-Views
Fitness Boxing feat. HATSUNE MIKU ($49.99)
Following Imagineer's successful Fitness Boxing franchise, including the surprisingly enjoyable Fitness Boxing Fist of the North Star, their collaboration with Hatsune Miku was a smart move. I've been testing it alongside Ring Fit Adventure, and I'm impressed.
The Fitness Boxing series blends boxing and rhythm game mechanics for daily workouts, mini-games, and more. Hatsune Miku's inclusion adds a unique element, with a dedicated mode featuring her songs. Note: This game is Joy-Con only; Pro Controllers or third-party accessories aren't supported.
Standard features include difficulty settings, free training, warm-ups, progress tracking, reminders, and a system-wide alarm. Unlockable cosmetics add replay value. While I can't comment on DLC yet, the base game surpasses Fist of the North Star—except for one minor flaw.
The audio is excellent, but the main instructor's voice feels out of sync and oddly directed, prompting me to lower its volume.
Fitness Boxing feat. HATSUNE MIKU successfully integrates Miku into the Fitness Boxing formula. It's a solid fitness game, but best used to supplement, rather than replace, other exercise routines. -Mikhail Madnani
SwitchArcade Score: 4/5
Magical Delicacy ($24.99)
Magical Delicacy, from sKaule and Whitethorn Games, blends Metroidvania exploration with cooking and crafting. While it successfully incorporates elements from both genres, the integration isn't perfect.
You play as Flora, a young witch on a wholesome, magical adventure. The exploration is surprisingly well-executed, despite some frustrating backtracking. However, inventory management and the UI require some adjustment.
The game boasts beautiful pixel art, charming music, and customizable UI settings. It feels like it could benefit from further refinement or updates.
The Switch version plays smoothly, with minor frame pacing hiccups. The haptic feedback is a nice touch. Playing it on Xbox Series X, I found it better suited for handheld play.
Despite its potential, Magical Delicacy feels slightly unfinished due to inventory and backtracking issues. Nevertheless, it's a strong game that shines on Switch, and some quality-of-life improvements would elevate it further. -Mikhail Madnani
SwitchArcade Score: 4/5
Aero The Acro-Bat 2 ($5.99)
Aero The Acro-Bat 2 is a surprisingly polished sequel to the original. While it didn't achieve the same level of success, it's a solid platformer.
This release boasts an improved presentation compared to Ratalaika's typical emulation releases. It includes features like box and manual scans, achievements, a sprite sheet gallery, a jukebox, and cheats. The only drawback is the exclusion of the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive version.
Fans of the original Aero The Acro-Bat will appreciate this enhanced experience. Even those who found the first game lacking might find this sequel more enjoyable. Ratalaika's improved emulation wrapper is commendable.
A great release for Aero fans and retro platformer enthusiasts.
SwitchArcade Score: 3.5/5
Metro Quester | Osaka ($19.99)
Metro Quester | Osaka functions more as an expansion than a full sequel to the original Metro Quester. It features a new setting (Osaka), a new dungeon, character types, weapons, skills, and enemies.
This prequel maintains the original's turn-based combat, top-down exploration, and strategic gameplay. The new water-based sections add a new dimension to exploration.
Fans of the original will find plenty to enjoy, and newcomers might prefer starting here. It's a rewarding experience for those willing to invest the time and patience required for its strategic gameplay.
SwitchArcade Score: 4/5
