Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Sequel from David Fincher and Brad Pitt Reportedly in the Works for Netflix
David Fincher and Brad Pitt are reportedly teaming up again to bring a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to life, with a script penned by Tarantino himself. According to The Playlist, the project is set to be produced for Netflix, further solidifying Fincher's ongoing collaboration with the streaming service. If all goes as planned, the untitled sequel will see Pitt reprising his role as the stuntman, Cliff Booth.
The journey of the script to Fincher's hands is intriguing. It is an evolved version of Tarantino's previously abandoned project, The Movie Critic, which was initially slated to be his final film before it was shelved last year. Tarantino, keen on not letting the concept go to waste, has entrusted Fincher with its development.
The Playlist reports that Netflix has acquired the screenplay for $20 million, with a projected budget of $200 million. Filming is scheduled to commence in California in July, just three months away. While no additional casting has been confirmed, it is known that Leonardo DiCaprio will not return as Rick Dalton. Both Fincher and Pitt are dedicating their full attention to this project, sidelining all other commitments.
Deadline has confirmed these developments, noting that Pitt received Tarantino's approval to share the script with Fincher, leading to this surprising collaboration.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019, has been hailed as a masterpiece within Tarantino's oeuvre. The sequel, potentially titled Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2, faces the challenge of living up to its predecessor's high standards. The original film concluded definitively, but its universe has been further explored in other media.
In 2021, Tarantino released a novelization of the film, which delves deeper into the 1960s California setting and sheds light on Cliff Booth's backstory, including the mystery of whether he killed his wife. This book is likely to gain additional significance with the release of the sequel, though its exact role in the narrative remains to be seen.
