How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To start your romantic journey with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. You'll need to offer four specific items at the seal: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Once you complete this offering, a cutscene will play where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or risk being sealed with the Sealing Scroll. As your health diminishes, Caldarus heroically intervenes, transforming into his human form and gifting you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods.

In his human form, Caldarus can now receive gifts and engage in daily conversations, similar to other romanceable NPCs in Mistria. After breaking the Fire Seal, you'll find Caldarus exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. To access this area permanently, use the Dragon’s Breath spell to unlock it on your map.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

Upon unlocking Caldarus as a romanceable character with the March 2025 update, he starts with a heart level of six, which is the current maximum. Unfortunately, there are no additional heart events available for Caldarus at this time, though future updates are expected to add more content.

Currently, you can experience a few cutscenes involving Caldarus. The first is a brief dream sequence at the game's start, introducing Mistria’s magic system and mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves you from being sealed and reveals his human form, subsequently retreating to recover in the Deep Woods. These scenes are part of the game's natural story progression.

With the March 2025 update, you can also trigger a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, an in-game event held on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, offering a chance to take any romanceable NPC with a heart level of four or higher on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus begins at six hearts, you can automatically attend with him. To do so, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up afterward to confirm your attendance. This will initiate a special cutscene of your date.

During your date at the Summit, Caldarus will express gratitude for the invitation and share insights into the stars and the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. Your conversation will delve into existential themes, discussing the nature of connections and the necessity of villains in every story. Caldarus muses about past lives and shared experiences, hinting at deeper bonds before suggesting you watch the rest of the stars from his temple, due to his sudden fatigue.
