Viola Davis' Waller Series Still in Development: Gunn

by Aria Dec 08,2025

Marvel executive James Gunn has made it clear: circulating rumors are false. The DC Studios co-chair has officially confirmed that the Waller TV series remains in active development.

The seasoned producer recently clarified the show's status on Threads when a fan inquired whether reports about Waller being reconfigured into a Checkmate series were accurate. His response was concise—just a single "yes" confirming the rumors' inaccuracy.

Another supporter followed up, asking point-blank: "So Waller is still in development?" Gunn again responded affirmatively with another succinct "yes."

This direct confirmation from the DCU chief comes as reassuring news, especially after Gunn previously acknowledged production hurdles. "Waller has faced some setbacks, to be honest," he admitted during a February press briefing alongside co-chief Peter Safran.

Beyond this, specifics about the series remain scarce. Originally unveiled as part of the DCU slate in January 2023, the show was billed as a Peacemaker spinoff—exploring the consequences of Viola Davis' Amanda Waller and Danielle Brooks' Leota Adebayo exposing Task Force X's existence in Season 1. However, the 2023 industry strikes disrupted planning, requiring rewrites to align with the revised DCU timeline—a process that substantially delayed production.

Watchmen writer Christal Henry and Doom Patrol's Jeremy Carver developed the series, though little else has been publicly disclosed. Gunn's latest update signals major progress, with hopes for a potential 2025 release. Fans will have to wait and see.
