"World of Warcraft Postpones Plunderstorm Launch"

Summary

  • The Plunderstorm event in WoW has been delayed due to unexpected issues.
  • No new estimated launch time has been revealed.
  • Players can complete other activities in WoW while waiting for Plunderstorm.

World of Warcraft has faced a slight hiccup with the launch of its much-anticipated second Plunderstorm event. Originally set to return on January 14, 2025, the pirate-themed battle royale game mode introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024 has encountered unexpected issues, delaying its launch. Despite the setback, the team at World of Warcraft remains committed to getting Plunderstorm up and running before the day is over, although no specific time has been announced yet.

The excitement surrounding Plunderstorm's return was high, especially with promises of both original and new rewards for players to chase. However, the planned six-hour maintenance window was extended to eight hours, and servers were expected to come back online at 3 PM PST. Yet, according to a forum update from WoW community manager Kaivax, unforeseen challenges have pushed the launch timeline further out. While World of Warcraft aims to have Plunderstorm live before the end of January 14, eager fans are left in anticipation without a clear launch window.

When is Plunderstorm Live in World of Warcraft?

  • Before the end of January 14, after "unexpected issues" are resolved

In the meantime, World of Warcraft has successfully restored its regular servers, allowing players to dive into other in-game activities. Whether it's tackling the Siren Isle weeklies, embarking on the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or exploring other aspects of The War Within, there's no shortage of things to do while waiting for Plunderstorm.

The second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces exciting new features such as the Plunderstore and an accessible game event interface, which might have contributed to the unexpected issues. Hopefully, the developers can swiftly resolve these challenges, allowing fans to jump back into the thrilling world of pirate battles.

Despite the delay, World of Warcraft has not paused its Plunderstorm Twitch Drops campaign. Players can earn the exclusive Coward’s Azure Target back transmog by watching four hours of any World of Warcraft stream on Twitch before February 4 at 10 AM PST. Notably, the streamer doesn't need to be playing Plunderstorm for viewers to make progress on the Drop, providing a fun way for fans to pass the time as they await the game mode's return.
