WoW: Season of Discovery Players Rediscover Notorious Bug From 2005

World of Warcraft's Corrupted Blood Bug Returns in Season of Discovery

The infamous Corrupted Blood incident, a notorious chapter in World of Warcraft history, has unexpectedly resurfaced in the Season of Discovery servers. Players have recreated the 2005 event, unintentionally unleashing a deadly plague reminiscent of the original chaos.

The culprit? The Zul'Gurub raid, introduced in Phase 5 of Season of Discovery (September 2024), brought back Hakkar the Soulflayer and his devastating Corrupted Blood spell. This spell, originally part of the Rise of the Blood God patch (September 2005), deals damage over time and spreads rapidly to nearby players. While normally manageable with strong healing, its accidental reintroduction has sparked concern.

Videos circulating online, such as one on r/classicwow by user Lightstruckx, show the debuff spreading through Stormwind City's Trade District, mirroring the 2005 incident where players exploited pet mechanics to spread the plague across the game world. The footage highlights the speed at which the debuff overwhelms players, even with active healing.

The reemergence of this bug has raised anxieties, particularly regarding the impact on Hardcore realms where character death is permanent. Some players attribute the issue to unresolved lingering problems, while others worry about the potential for deliberate misuse.

Despite past attempts to address the issue, the legacy of Corrupted Blood continues to haunt World of Warcraft. With Season of Discovery's seventh phase slated for early 2025, the question remains: when will Blizzard finally eradicate this persistent plague?
