Conquering the Lifer in Wuthering Waves: A Comprehensive Guide

Wuthering Waves version 2.0 introduces the challenging Lifer, a unique Tacet Discord residing in the Rinascita region's Oakheart Highcourt maze. This guide details how to overcome this formidable opponent.

Locating the Lifer

The Lifer is situated at the maze's center, beneath the massive tree in Oakheart Highcourt, within the Fagaceae Peninsula. An accessible entrance is located southwest of the Resonance Beacon near Oakheart Highcourt. Players can climb the walls or utilize the Flight function to reach it.

The Lifer's Board Game

Inside, players encounter a six-piece board game. The goal is to connect three pieces before the Lifer does. Controlling the black pieces, players can manipulate the maze's walls by placing pieces on the outer circle, opening gates in that direction. The game can be exited and resumed, preserving piece positions. While not mandatory for combat, the board game is crucial for buff removal. Winning before buff removal is ill-advised, as the Lifer immediately initiates combat.

Removing the Lifer's Buffs

The Lifer possesses seven buffs, four removable using the Stake of Imbalance. These buffs are visible on a glowing yellow module behind the Lifer.

Removable Buffs (Fragility):

  • Growing Loneliness: 10% Max HP recovery per second after 2+ seconds without being attacked.
  • Desire for Escape: 25% ATK increase; additional 25% DMG increase every 20 seconds.
  • Impending Stalemate: 20% ATK increase per DMG instance, stacking up to 4 times (resets after 6 seconds without DMG).
  • Decay of Time: 200% increased resistance to all elemental damage types (Glacio, Fusion, Electro, Aero, Spectro, Havoc); 25% Max HP increase.

Permanent Buffs (Stability):

  • Chains of Confinement: Interruption immunity above 50% HP.
  • Endless Game: 50% reduced Immobilization duration.
  • Divine Garden: Repels and damages nearby enemies after taking >25% Max HP in a single hit.

To obtain the Stakes of Imbalance, use the Sensor tool near the Lifer to reveal four purple lines leading to outer maze rooms. Manipulate the board game to open the corresponding gates. Each room contains a winged statue and a Stake of Imbalance (marked by a white glow). One room requires Tacet Discord defeat, another involves breaking Friable Rocks, and the last is simply on a table. Place each Stake in the module before its statue to remove the associated buff. The purple line will turn yellow upon successful removal.

Defeating the Lifer

With all four removable buffs gone, the Lifer is significantly weaker. Engage via the board game or by selecting "Fight it out!". Its attacks pose minimal threat.

Victories yield rewards:

  • First Victory: Premium Supply Chest
  • Second Victory: Premium Supply Chest + 3 Basic Supply Chests
  • Third Victory: Advanced Supply Chest + 3 Standard Supply Chests

Buffs can be re-enabled for a more challenging fight, though no achievements are tied to this.

Lifer Achievements

  • The Lifer's Salvation: Defeat the Lifer.
  • The Ring of The Lifer: Obtain all nine chests (defeat the Lifer three times).
  • Limit of Intelligence: Win the board game against the Lifer.
  • Alpha Go: Lose the board game against the Lifer 10 times.

For the board game, focus on blocking the Lifer's attempts to create a line. It will eventually make a mistake.
