"Ys Memoire: Defeating Dularn in Felghana"
Quick Links
In Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, players will encounter numerous boss battles, with Dularn, The Creeping Shadow, being the first formidable challenge they face. Tackling the initial boss can be daunting due to a significant difficulty spike, but with the right strategies, defeating Dularn can be achieved more quickly than expected.
How to Beat Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
At the start of the battle, Dularn will encase himself in a spherical barrier, making him impervious to any attacks. Your focus should be on surviving his onslaught until the barrier dissipates. Once it's down, you'll have a window to land multiple hits on Dularn. His health varies with the chosen difficulty level, and while backtracking is an option if you're struggling, defeating Dularn is mandatory for progression.
It's crucial to avoid contact with Dularn while his barrier is up, as it will damage you. Recklessly attacking him during this phase will lead to an unsuccessful battle.
Dularn's Sword Attacks
Dularn unleashes multiple swords in various patterns, each requiring specific avoidance tactics:
- He summons swords that hover above him before striking directly at the player.
- He forms an X-shape with swords that then home in on you.
- He sends a straight line of swords towards you.
Dealing with these homing projectiles can be tricky, but a simple yet effective strategy is to run in wide circles around Dularn during his barrier phase. This maneuver helps dodge the initial two sword strikes. For the X-shaped attack, jumping can serve as an additional evasion technique. To avoid the straight line of swords, time your jump just before they reach you.
Once the barrier is down, Dularn becomes vulnerable to your sword attacks. After taking damage, he will teleport away, so keep your distance when he reappears to avoid his reforming barrier.
Dularn's Wave Blasts
Dularn can launch two types of wave attacks:
Fireballs
You can navigate through the fireballs or jump over them. Combining movement with jumping ensures you remain unscathed.
Arching Slash
This large blue slash leaves no gaps for evasion except by jumping over it. These attacks typically signal when Dularn is about to become vulnerable again, so use them as cues to attack.
Understanding and anticipating Dularn's attack patterns is key to defeating him, eliminating the need for excessive level grinding.
