The story of *The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - Northern War* begins in the North Ambria Autonomous Province, in northwestern Zemuria. This tale unfolds between the events of *Trails of Cold Steel II* and *Trails of Cold Steel III*. The Northern Campaign is experienced through the eyes of Lavie, a female hunter who serves in the TV anime's famed band of warriors, the Northern Jaegers.

Year 1205 of the Septian Calendar.

Lavie is a young woman born and raised in the North Ambria Autonomous Province in northwestern Zemuria.

To protect her homeland and prove herself different from her grandfather Vlad—once a hero who later betrayed the land—she joined the continent's largest mercenary corps, the Northern Jaegers, and carries out their missions.

One day, Lavie, who is often disciplined for being overzealous in her duties, is forced to team up with fellow Jaegers Marty, Iseria, and Talion. The unit is given a perilous mission to infiltrate the Erebonian Empire as spies.

Their objective: to gather intelligence on a mysterious and formidable "Hero of the Empire" who poses a threat to North Ambria.
