"Assassin's Creed Shadows Main Campaign Takes 30-40 Hours, New Game+ Considered"
If you're eager to dive into the world of Assassin's Creed Shadows (AC Shadows), you'll be pleased to know that the main campaign is set to take around 30-40 hours to complete. This exciting detail was shared during the AC Shadows' Showcase Event in Kyoto, where Genki Gamer had the chance to discuss the game with Creative Director Johnathan Dumont.
Main Campaign Will Be Around 30-40 Hours
Dumont revealed that players can expect a comprehensive main storyline that spans 30-40 hours, complemented by over 80 hours of engaging side content. Moreover, the team is considering the addition of a New Game+ mode and other features, responding to fan feedback. This is a significant point for fans, as the lack of New Game+ in AC Valhalla left many feeling disappointed.
AC Shadows is packed with innovative features, including dynamic world elements like seasons and weather systems, new gameplay mechanics, and an expanded customizable hideout. The game also introduces a new Animus story that will connect with future Assassin's Creed projects.
Working on a Japanese-themed Assassin’s Creed Game
Dumont shared that the team's passion for creating a game set in Japan was a driving force behind AC Shadows. The setting required a natural, fluid movement, and with current technology, the team could bring this vision to life alongside a compelling narrative.
The game draws inspiration from iconic Japanese films like 13 Assassins, Sekigahara, Zatoichi, and Kurosawa classics, but with a unique Assassin's Creed twist. Dumont acknowledged the online controversies, particularly around the inclusion of Yasuke, the black samurai, which has sparked debates due to its historical and cultural implications. Despite this, the team remains committed to delivering a game that honors their vision and resonates with Japanese fans.
Deep Dive Into The Hideout
Secret Valley of Izumi Settsu
On March 5, 2025, AC Shadows provided an in-depth look at the Hideout, located in the secluded valley of Izumi Settsu province. This area will serve as the players' base of operations as they build and expand the Brotherhood.
Systems Associate Director Dany described the Hideout as an ambitious project, saying, "After fortresses, villas, homesteads, pirate coves, café-theatres, moving trains, ships, settlements, assassin bureaus... We knew that if we wanted to make anything new on that front, we had to take a bold step forward." Players will have an entire acre of land to customize, from buildings and pavilions to pathways and local flora and fauna. Dany emphasized, "We really want players to make the Hideout their own," noting that customization options unlock progressively throughout the game, reflecting the player's journey.
A League of Your Own
The Hideout will not only be a customizable space but also a hub for various characters who will aid the player in their mission. Each character has their own backstory and challenges, and their presence in the Hideout will vary based on the player's building choices. For instance, fighters might gravitate towards the Dojo, while others may enjoy the Zashiki for sake.
This setup fosters new dialogue and interactions among characters, making the Hideout a dynamic, living space. Dany highlighted the collaborative effort of writers from four different studios worldwide, who crafted interactions inspired by scenarios like, "What would happen if these two characters suddenly became roommates?" He expressed enthusiasm for the unique moments these interactions bring, stating, "It makes the Hideout feel like the beating heart of the league."
With its rich features and mechanics, Assassin's Creed Shadows promises to deliver an authentic Japanese experience, tailored to the Assassin's Creed universe.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to launch on March 20, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates and details by checking out our related articles!
