The Pokemon Company is responding to the scarcity of the Pokemon Trading Card Game’s (TCG) latest release, Prismatic Evolutions, as reported by IGN on January 16, 2025.

“We recognize that some fans may face challenges finding Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions products at launch due to overwhelming demand affecting availability,” a Pokemon Company spokesperson stated. “We regret any inconvenience this causes and are working diligently to produce more of the affected TCG products as quickly as possible, utilizing our full production capacity.”

The shortage of the Prismatic Evolutions expansion was highlighted by PokeBeach, a Pokemon TCG fan site, on January 4, 2025.

The report noted that local US Pokemon stores are grappling with limited stock due to unexpectedly high demand. “Many stores that don’t typically stock Pokemon products are now ordering this set from distributors,” said Deguire, owner of Player 1 Services, a major Pokemon retailer in Maryland, USA.

With increased orders, distributors have reduced allocations for local retailers by 10% to 15% to distribute the product across more stores. This has left smaller retailers struggling, while larger chains like GameStop and Target receive priority shipments.

The shortage may also drive up prices for certain Prismatic Evolutions editions. According to the report, the unreleased Elite Trainer Box is already fetching $127 USD on secondary markets, far above its $55 retail price. However, increased stock from the Pokemon TCG could stabilize prices and deter scalping.
