Scalebound Development Revival Rumors Surface

Scalebound was once heralded as one of the most ambitious action projects of its time, blending dynamic combat, immersive music, and a unique interaction system with a colossal dragon companion. As one of the rare Xbox One exclusives, it sparked immense interest but unfortunately never saw the light of day. Announced back in 2014, Microsoft officially pulled the plug on its development in 2017.

Recently, Clovers Inc's official account on X shared a video featuring Hideki Kamiya and his colleagues reminiscing over archived gameplay footage of Scalebound. Kamiya nostalgically recounted the game's development process, expressing continued pride in the project despite its cancellation. He further amplified his sentiments by retweeting the video with a poignant message directed at Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's gaming division: "Come on, Phil, let's do this!" This clear call to action suggests Kamiya's ongoing interest in reviving the game, a sentiment he has voiced before, notably in early 2022 when he expressed a willingness to discuss resuming development with Microsoft.

The topic of Scalebound's potential return surfaces frequently, with rumors intensifying in early 2023. Several sources hinted at a possible reboot, though Microsoft remained silent on the matter. In an interview with the Japanese publication Game Watch, Phil Spencer responded to queries about Scalebound with a smile and a non-committal, "I have nothing to add at this time."

Even if Microsoft shows interest in reviving Scalebound, a swift return is unlikely. Currently, Hideki Kamiya is engaged with his studio, Clovers Inc, working on a new installment of Okami. Should Xbox greenlight the project, Kamiya could only start on Scalebound after completing his current commitments. Despite these challenges, the enduring interest in Scalebound over the years offers hope that one day, gamers might finally witness its long-awaited release.
