Ubisoft Revives Splinter Cell with New Steam Achievements for 12-Year-Old Game

by Sophia May 22,2025

Great news for fans of Sam Fisher: Ubisoft has not forgotten about the beloved Splinter Cell franchise. They've recently added Steam Achievements to the 2013 title, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, signaling that the series remains on their radar.

The last significant update we received about the Splinter Cell Remake was back in 2022, when IGN met with Ubisoft Toronto developers to discuss their approach to redesigning the game. However, in a quiet move overnight, Ubisoft updated the achievement list for the 12-year-old Splinter Cell: Blacklist on Steam.

Ubisoft announced: "Agents, we are pleased to announce that Steam Achievements are now available for Splinter Cell: Blacklist!"

These achievements can be earned retroactively for accomplishments you've already achieved in the game. To unlock them, you'll need to start up the game at least once. "Once synced, the previously unlocked Ubisoft Connect achievements will be automatically unlocked on Steam," the team explained.

While adding these retrospective achievements, Ubisoft chose not to include the additional 19 online achievements found on consoles, ensuring players can still achieve 100% completion on Steam.

The stealth-action series is poised to return with the Splinter Cell Remake. Although details are scarce, we know it will be completely rebuilt using the advanced Snowdrop engine. Creative director Chris Auty emphasized the intention to refine elements of the original game that may not have aged well while preserving the core story and experience.

In other Ubisoft news, the company recently established a subsidiary focused on its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands, backed by a €1.16 billion (around $1.25 billion) investment from Tencent. This comes after the success of Assassin's Creed Shadows, which has surpassed 3 million players. Ubisoft has faced challenges with high-profile flops, layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations, placing significant pressure on new releases to perform well amid a historic low in the company's share price.
