Valve Planning to Slow Down Deadlock Updates

Deadlock Update Schedule Shifting in 2025: Fewer, Larger Patches Planned

Valve has announced a change in its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, shifting from frequent smaller updates to larger, less frequent patches. This decision, communicated via the official Deadlock Discord, aims to streamline the development process and allow for more thorough testing and implementation of significant changes.

While the consistent updates of 2024 will be slowing, the shift promises more substantial updates that will feel more impactful and event-driven. The recent winter update, featuring unique gameplay alterations, serves as a preview of this new approach. Hotfixes will still be deployed as needed.

Deadlock, Valve's free-to-play MOBA, launched on Steam earlier in 2024 after early gameplay leaks. It has quickly gained traction in the competitive hero-shooter market, even alongside established titles like Marvel Rivals. The game's distinctive steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay have contributed to its success.

According to a statement from Valve developer Yoshi, the previous two-week update cycle proved challenging for internal iteration and external adjustment before subsequent updates. The new approach will allow for more substantial changes and better integration of player feedback.

The game currently boasts 22 playable characters, further augmented by 8 additional heroes in the Hero Labs mode. Deadlock's innovative anti-cheat measures and diverse character roster have also been praised.

While an official release date remains unconfirmed, Valve anticipates sharing further updates and details about Deadlock's future in 2025. The expectation is that limited-time events and special game modes will continue to be introduced as development progresses.
