by Camila Mar 17,2025

In the thrilling world of *Phasmophobia*, hunting down the most elusive and dangerous ghosts often requires employing items as risky as the spirits themselves. Enter the Voodoo Doll, a Cursed Possession capable of both aiding your investigation and significantly jeopardizing your sanity. This guide details how to acquire and effectively utilize this powerful, yet perilous, tool.

The Voodoo Doll, despite its inherent risks, offers a favorable risk-reward ratio, making it a valuable asset in your ghost-hunting arsenal. While game updates have adjusted its mechanics, its effectiveness remains largely unchanged. Its primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence through a series of actions.

By sequentially inserting pins into the doll, you instigate ghostly activity. This is particularly useful when dealing with reticent or elusive spirits, forcing them to manifest evidence like EMF5 readings or UV fingerprints. The doll features ten pins; each insertion, however, comes at a cost.

Each pin inserted depletes 5% of your sanity. Inserting all ten pins will drain a significant 50%, increasing your vulnerability to ghost hunts. The most critical risk, however, lies in the heart pin. Pin insertion is random; if you accidentally hit the heart, your sanity drops by 10%, immediately triggering a prolonged (20 seconds longer than normal) and intensely close Cursed Hunt.

Despite the inherent dangers, the potential for gathering crucial evidence often outweighs the risks, especially with proper preparation and teamwork.

What Are Cursed Objects (Possessions) in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Possessions, or Cursed Objects, are unique items that randomly appear across *Phasmophobia*'s maps, with spawn rates influenced by difficulty and game mode (including Challenge Mode). Unlike standard equipment, which provides evidence with minimal risk, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate the ghost, but at a considerable cost to your character's sanity.

The risk associated with each Cursed Object varies, requiring careful consideration before use. There's no penalty for ignoring them; only one Cursed Possession spawns per contract (unless modified in Custom settings). Seven Cursed Objects exist in the game:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
