by Sarah Jan 06,2026

The upcoming Narnia reboot, penned and directed by Barbie filmmaker Greta Gerwig, continues to expand its ensemble with the addition of Carey Mulligan.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms Mulligan's casting, joining previously announced stars such as former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey of Sex Education fame, and Hollywood icon Meryl Streep.

Gerwig will write and direct this fresh interpretation of C.S. Lewis's beloved fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia.

The film will adapt the series' prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, which takes place before the events of the iconic first story, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Mulligan, an acclaimed performer with multiple Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations, is slated to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the young protagonist Digory.

Daniel Craig will star as the titular magician and Digory's uncle. Emma Mackey will portray a younger incarnation of the villainous White Witch, while Meryl Streep provides the voice for Aslan, the god-like talking lion.

This marks a new cinematic chapter for Narnia, following a previous film trilogy released between 2005 and 2010. Those adaptations covered the first three books by C.S. Lewis: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

That earlier series featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan.

Gerwig's Narnia project is her first major undertaking since the surprise blockbuster success of 2023's Barbie. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the film received eight Academy Award nominations and won for Best Original Song.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is currently scheduled for release in 2026.
