FF7 Rebirth DLC Hinges on Fan Demand
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Modding, DLC, and Enhancements Revealed
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shed light on the PC version of the game, addressing player inquiries about potential DLC and the modding community. Read on for the details.
DLC: A Matter of Player Demand
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated, "We did have the desire to add an episodic story as a new DLC to the PC version," but ultimately, finishing the main series is their top priority. However, he left the door open: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them." The future of DLC hinges on significant player demand.
A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility
Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community, acknowledging the inevitable influx of player-created content. While the game doesn't have official mod support, he expressed respect for their creativity, adding a crucial caveat: "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate." This responsible appeal reflects the potential for both positive and negative contributions from modding.
PC Version Improvements: Enhanced Visuals and Challenges
The PC release boasts graphical improvements over the PS5 version, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing previous concerns about the "uncanny valley effect" on character faces. More powerful PCs will benefit from higher-fidelity 3D models and textures. However, porting the game's numerous mini-games presented unique challenges, requiring extensive work on key configuration settings.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. The game initially debuted on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim. For more information, be sure to check out our other FF7 Rebirth articles!
