Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Project Collapses Unexpectedly

In a candid video titled 'A Bad Month,' popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, shared his disappointment over the collapse of a year-long project: an animated show based on the critically acclaimed survival horror game, Soma. Developed by Frictional Games, the same studio behind the Amnesia series, Soma was released in 2015 and quickly became a favorite of Jacksepticeye, who has streamed and praised the game extensively.

Jacksepticeye revealed that he had been working closely with the developers of Soma for a year, eagerly preparing to bring the game's compelling story to a new animated format. However, the project abruptly fell apart when an unnamed party decided to take the project "in a different direction," leaving Jacksepticeye "quite upset" and reluctant to delve into the specifics of what went wrong.

The cancellation of the Soma animated show significantly disrupted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025. He had intended to focus much of his time and creative energy on this project, expecting it to be a major part of his content for the year. The sudden halt left him scrambling to reassess his priorities and figure out his next steps. "It’s been a tough month," he admitted, expressing frustration over the time and effort that now seemed to yield nothing.

Following the release of Soma, Frictional Games continued to expand their portfolio with two more entries in the Amnesia series: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In a statement from July 2023, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned the studio's intention to move away from solely focusing on horror, aiming to explore other emotional themes in their games. This shift underscores Frictional's broader creative ambitions beyond the horror genre that initially defined their work.
