Kamiya Hints at Devil May Cry Remake Next
Hideki Kamiya, the renowned director behind the original Devil May Cry, has expressed interest in crafting a remake of the iconic game. In this article, we delve into Kamiya's vision for the remake and explore the origins of the game that started it all.
Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The gaming industry has seen a surge in remakes of classic titles, with games like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 leading the charge. Now, Devil May Cry (DMC) could join their ranks, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in remaking the original game.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, posted on May 8, Kamiya responded to fan queries about remakes and sequels. When asked about his ideas for a DMC remake, he expressed enthusiasm, stating, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Devil May Cry first hit the shelves in 2001, initially intended as Resident Evil 4. However, the game's development took a dramatic turn, leading Capcom to birth the DMC series instead.
Reflecting on the game's origins nearly 25 years later, Kamiya revealed a personal story behind its creation. In 2000, a breakup left him in a state of depression, a feeling that fueled the dark and intense atmosphere of DMC.
Kamiya admits he doesn't replay his games after release, including DMC. Yet, when he occasionally watches gameplay clips, he acknowledges the game's age, noting its old-fashioned design. Should a remake come to fruition, Kamiya plans to build it from scratch, leveraging modern technology and current game design methodologies.
While the idea of a DMC remake is currently on the back burner for Kamiya, he remains open to the possibility. He confidently stated, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Additionally, Kamiya has expressed interest in remaking another of his classics, Viewtiful Joe, sparking hope among fans for the revival of these cherished titles in the near future.
