MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Warner Bros. Game Loses 99% of Players

If Season 5 of MultiVersus fails to meet expectations, it might mark the end of the game. AusilMV, a well-known insider for game leaks, has reported this unsettling news. According to him, a reliable source indicated that Season 5 is the last-ditch effort to revive the game's fortunes. While this is currently just a rumor, the situation appears dire.

Upon its launch in 2022, MultiVersus enjoyed explosive success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the player base soon plummeted by 99%, prompting Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, labeling it an “open beta test.” Despite returning with updates in May 2024, the game struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season of MultiVersus is scheduled to begin in early February, representing perhaps the final opportunity for developers to reignite player interest. This relaunch is critical, yet the developers have chosen to refer to the 2022 release as a "beta." Initially, players warmly received the game, but the decision to temporarily shut it down in June 2023, announced in March of that year, left many, especially those who had purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling disappointed and frustrated.
