NieR: Automata - Beast Hide Locations Revealed

NieR: Automata offers a diverse arsenal of weapons, upgradeable multiple times to extend their usefulness throughout the game. Weapon upgrades require various resources, including Beast Hides, a material not readily obtained. This guide details how to acquire and farm them efficiently.

Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife like moose and boar, randomly spawning in specific map areas (primarily ruined cities and forests). These animals are easily identified on the mini-map by their white icons (unlike machines' black icons). They tend to avoid players and robots.

Wildlife farming isn't straightforward due to their infrequent spawns. Their behavior depends on your level relative to theirs: lower-level animals may flee, while higher-level ones might attack on approach or even become aggressive at close proximity. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging.

Using Animal Bait can lure wildlife, simplifying their defeat. Since wildlife doesn't respawn continuously during the main storyline, you must hunt them while exploring and then relocate to find more. Respawn mechanics for wildlife mirror those of machines:

  • Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
  • Traveling a sufficient distance triggers respawns in previously visited areas.
  • Story progression can also trigger respawns of nearby enemies and wildlife.

There's no guaranteed "farming" method for Beast Hides. The most effective strategy is to eliminate all encountered wildlife while exploring forest and city ruin areas. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, ensuring you'll usually acquire enough unless simultaneously upgrading numerous weapons.
