Tencent Launches Arthurian Knights for Global Gaming Market

In an exclusive discussion with Wccftech, Eclipse Glow Games revealed why Tides of Annihilation incorporates Arthurian mythology and its London setting. Discover more insights about the game's core concepts and future plans.
Tides of Annihilation Targets Western Gamers
Arthurian Legend as a Core Narrative Theme

During Gamescom 2024, Eclipse Glow Games developers explained their creative decisions to Wccftech, covering the game's mythology integration, combat system, and potential series expansion.
Despite being a Chinese development studio, Eclipse Glow Games adopted a distinctly Western setting due to strategic direction from investor Tencent. "While Black Myth: Wukong focused on Chinese mythology for domestic audiences, Tencent envisioned Tides of Annihilation specifically for Western players - hence our choice of Arthurian legend," explained the producers. The team developed this concept around medieval knighthood traditions, evolving into a story featuring King Arthur and his legendary companions.
The game presents a devastated modern London following an extradimensional invasion, where protagonist Gwendolyn appears as potentially the last human survivor. This alternate reality blends present-day settings with mythical elements drawn from Arthurian lore.
DMC-Inspired Action And Extensive Boss Battles

Action RPG enthusiasts will immediately recognize Tides of Annihilation's combat similarities to Devil May Cry's signature style. Developers confirmed these influences while emphasizing accessibility: "We've drawn heavy inspiration from DMC's combat fluidity, but incorporated adjustable difficulty settings to welcome less experienced players."
The system offers combat customization through multiple weapon choices and a roster of legendary knights as companion fighters. As Gwendolyn explores ruined London, she discovers the ability to summon Round Table knights to aid her against over thirty uniquely designed bosses. "Players should prepare for demanding encounters that test their combat mastery," cautioned the development team.
Potential For Mythological Anthology

Eclipse Glow Games expressed ambitions to create a franchise exploring various global mythologies, potentially featuring different protagonists while maintaining the "Outworld invasion" concept as a unifying thread. "Our hope is to establish Tides of Annihilation strongly enough to warrant exploring other cultural legends through this framework," they explained.
Currently in beta testing, Tides of Annihilation targets a 2026 release across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Players will guide Gwendolyn's journey to save both post-apocalyptic London and the merging realm of Avalon.
