Pesten With Cards

Pesten With Cards, a classic Dutch card game literally translating to "Bullying With Cards," is similar to international games like Mau-Mau, Crazy Eights, and Uno. The objective? Be the first to discard all your cards. A crucial rule: announce "Last Card" before playing your final card; failure to do so results in a two-card penalty.

The game uses one or more decks, including Jokers. Each player receives seven cards, with the remainder forming a draw pile. Play begins with the top card of the draw pile revealed. Players take turns (clockwise) playing cards matching the number or suit of the top card. Jokers and Jacks are exceptions, playable on any card. Unable to play? Draw a card from the pile. If playable, you may choose to play it immediately.

The "Last Card" Rule:

Announcing "Last Card" (via an in-game button) is mandatory when you have one card left. Forgetting to do so, or incorrectly announcing it, incurs a two-card penalty. The button can be pressed preemptively. Your last card cannot be a special card (see below).

Special Cards and Their Effects:

Card effects vary; the game allows customization to match regional rules. Here are common actions:

• Joker: The next player draws five cards. Subsequent Jokers played add another five cards per Joker. Drawing cards prevents immediate play.
• Two: The next player draws two cards. Subsequent Twos add two more cards each. Depending on game settings, a Joker can be played on a Two (adding five cards). A Two cannot be played on a Joker. Drawing cards prevents immediate play.
• Seven: The current player must immediately play another card. The "Last Card" rule applies. If unable to play, draw a card.
• Eight: The next player skips their turn. In two-player games, the current player takes another turn.
• Ten: Each player passes a card to the player on their left.
