Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's Historical Consultant Rates the Game's Storyline as \"1 Out of 10\" for Realism

Joanna Novak, the historical consultant for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, recently shared her experiences working on both games in the series. She discussed the unique challenges and necessary compromises that came with blending historical accuracy and engaging gameplay.

Novak pointed out that the narrative of the game, which follows the journey of protagonist Hendrich, diverges significantly from the probable life of a blacksmith's son in that historical period.

She noted that the story leans more towards the realm of legend and folklore rather than historical truth. On a realism scale, Novak rated the plot as "1 out of 10," explaining the developers' rationale for these creative choices. Players are typically more captivated by epic rags-to-riches tales where the protagonist ascends through societal ranks, engages with historical figures, and ultimately achieves greatness—rather than the ordinary existence of a peasant.

Regarding the world-building and environment in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Warhorse Studios strived for authenticity. However, Novak acknowledges that the final product did not achieve perfection due to limitations in time, budget, and the need to cater to modern player expectations. Some modifications were made to ensure historical accuracy did not compromise the game's enjoyment.

Despite these adjustments, Novak expressed satisfaction with the inclusion of numerous period-appropriate details. Nonetheless, she cautions against labeling the game as realistic or historically accurate, as it would be misleading to do so.
