Sony Restricts Lost Soul Aside on Steam in Over 130 Countries

Sony's region-locking of Lost Soul Aside on Steam in over 130 countries has sparked backlash among PC gamers, many of whom are now refusing to purchase the game. Explore the details of this restriction and insights from recent interviews with the game’s director.

Gamers Upset Over Lost Soul Aside Region Restrictions

UltiZero Games’ Lost Soul Aside will face region restrictions at its launch, disappointing fans as Sony limits access to PlayStation-published titles. SteamDB reports that the game will be unavailable in over 130 countries unsupported by PlayStation Network (PSN).
Interestingly, Lost Soul Aside does not require a PSN account. Yet, the region-locking prevents the game from appearing on Steam in unsupported regions, forcing players to create new Steam accounts in PSN-supported countries. This decision, which contradicts Sony’s recent removal of PSN requirements for PC titles, has fueled anger among PC gamers, who are voicing their frustrations on social media and forums, with many choosing to boycott the game.
Lost Soul Aside Merges Fantasy and Realism in Stunning Visuals

Since its 2016 reveal, Lost Soul Aside has maintained its signature blend of fantasy and realistic visuals. In a February 20, 2025, IGN interview, UltiZero Games CEO Yang Bing discussed the game’s inspirations and distinctive style.
Bing noted that the game’s visual and combat style, characterized by high-speed, vibrant action, has remained consistent since its debut trailer. He said, “We’ve stayed true to this vision throughout development. Along the way, we’ve drawn inspiration from remarkable new titles, refining our ideas. What started as a personal project has evolved into a polished, mature experience.”
Bing highlighted the influence of Final Fantasy 15, noting that protagonist Kaser embodies a mix of cartoonish features and realistic textures in his skin, hair, and clothing, creating a striking balance between fantasy and reality.
Inspired by Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry

Lost Soul Aside draws inspiration from iconic Japanese games like Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry, with their influence woven into various elements of the game. In a February 20, 2025, Famitsu interview, Yang Bing explained how these titles shaped the project.
He emphasized that Kaser’s design reflects Final Fantasy’s blend of realism and fantasy. “We designed Kaser’s clothing to feel tangible, as if it could exist in reality,” Yang said. “This approach makes the protagonist feel vivid and relatable, much like characters in the Final Fantasy series.”
For combat, Yang cited Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry as influences for the game’s fast-paced, flashy mechanics. “We’re continually enhancing the combat system to balance speed and depth,” he explained. “Players can craft their own playstyle, and even those less skilled at complex combos can leverage various mechanics for a smooth, high-performance experience.”
