Elders Ring Nightreign: Omitting Familiar FromSoftware Element

Elden Ring Nightreign: No In-Game Messaging System

FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will not feature the in-game messaging system present in its predecessor. This decision, according to game director Junya Ishizaki, is a practical one. The anticipated shorter gameplay sessions (approximately 40 minutes) in Nightreign's multiplayer-focused design leave insufficient time for players to effectively read and write messages.

This omission doesn't signify a complete removal of asynchronous features. Key elements like the bloodstain mechanic will return, enhanced to allow players to view and even loot the ghosts of fallen comrades. This aligns with FromSoftware's goal of creating a "compressed RPG" experience, prioritizing intensity and minimizing downtime. The game's three-day structure also contributes to this streamlined design.

The absence of the messaging system contrasts sharply with the established Soulsborne formula, where player messages have become a significant aspect of the community experience. However, FromSoftware believes this change is necessary to maintain the fast-paced, action-oriented gameplay intended for Nightreign.

While a 2025 release is targeted, a precise launch date for Elden Ring Nightreign, revealed at TGA 2024, remains unannounced.
