Counter-Strike Co-Creator Was Happy Valve Maintained Its LegacyIn a recent interview with Spillhistorie.no commemorating Counter-Strike's 25th anniversary, Minh "Gooseman" Le, one of the game's creators, reflected on the franchise's success. Le and his partner, Jess Cliffe, developed one of the most influential first-person shooters ever made.

Le highlighted Valve's crucial role in Counter-Strike's enduring popularity. He looked back on the decision to sell the IP rights, stating, "I'm pleased with how things transpired with Valve. They've expertly preserved CS's legacy."

The transition to Steam wasn't without its hurdles. Le recalled, "Steam initially struggled with stability; there were periods where players couldn't even log in." Despite these early technical difficulties, Le acknowledged the invaluable support of the community in overcoming these challenges. "The community's assistance was critical; many created helpful guides that smoothed the transition," he explained.

His inspiration stemmed from various sources: "Classic arcade games like Virtua Cop and Time Crisis, along with Hong Kong action films (John Woo), Hollywood movies such as Heat, Ronin, and Air Force One, and the Tom Clancy films of the 90s." Cliffe joined the project in 1999, contributing to map design.

Counter-Strike's 25th anniversary on June 19th underscored its enduring appeal. Counter-Strike 2, the latest iteration, boasts a substantial player base of nearly 25 million monthly users. Valve's dedication has ensured the game's continued success in a fiercely competitive FPS market.

Le expressed deep gratitude for Valve's handling of his creation. He stated, "It's been incredibly humbling. I held Valve in such high regard. Working with them was a valuable learning experience; I collaborated with top-tier developers, acquiring skills I wouldn't have gained elsewhere."
