Josef Fares Hints at Possible Single-Player Game
Josef Fares, the visionary behind Hazelight Studios and the mastermind of the cooperative adventure Split Fiction, recently took the opportunity to engage directly with fans, addressing misconceptions and responding to critiques about his work. A fan had accused Fares of previously claiming the demise of single-player games, a statement he firmly denied. He highlighted that Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (2013), one of Hazelight's most acclaimed titles, is a testament to their commitment to single-player experiences.

Fares went on to clarify that while Hazelight is renowned for its focus on cooperative gameplay, the possibility of creating a single-player game similar to their past projects is not out of the question. "We're not excluding it," he affirmed, indicating the studio's willingness to explore diverse gameplay styles moving forward.
In addition, Fares addressed the controversy surrounding the choice of two female protagonists in Split Fiction. Some fans questioned whether this decision was a push towards feminism or part of a larger agenda. Fares countered these criticisms by pointing out the diversity in character pairings across Hazelight's portfolio—from the two brothers in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, the two men in A Way Out, to the male-female duo in It Takes Two. Despite these varied representations, the decision to feature two women as leads in Split Fiction drew significant attention.
Fares made it clear that the characters in Split Fiction were inspired by his daughters, emphasizing his focus on creating compelling narratives and well-developed characters rather than focusing on their physical attributes. "I don’t care what’s between someone’s legs—it’s about crafting great characters," he stated passionately.
Split Fiction, released on March 6th, has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its innovative gameplay mechanics and diverse scenarios. Prior to its launch, system requirements were clearly communicated, ensuring that players were well-informed about the specifications needed to experience Hazelight's latest masterpiece.
