Developers of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Reveal Details About the Swarm Faction

Unfrozen Studio, the developers behind Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, have unveiled further details about the intriguing Swarm faction, following an initial teaser. The team delved into the faction's origins, explaining its evolution from the initially conceived "Inferno" faction into the adaptable Swarm, and its role within the Jadame continent's unfolding narrative.

The Swarm's defining characteristic is its remarkable adaptability. Certain creatures possess abilities directly influenced by the opposing unit's level; the greater the disparity, the more potent the damage inflicted. Others, such as mantises, boast a unique tactical advantage, selecting from three distinct abilities each round. A notable survival mechanism is the ability of creatures like worms and locusts to consume corpses, regenerating health and enhancing their capabilities—a skill mirrored by the faction's heroes.

In Olden Era, the insectoid Swarm assumes the mantle of the demonic threat, an entity only briefly alluded to in Might & Magic 8. While respecting established lore, the developers infused the Swarm with elements of body horror and occultism, transforming them from a simple insect colony into a devoted cult under a singular, powerful ruler. Each member forms part of a vast, interconnected consciousness, existing solely to serve their master's commands.

Gameplay revolves around the Swarm's "mono-faction" mechanic, rewarding players for employing exclusively Swarm units, as they synergistically enhance one another. A key tactical element is the ability to summon cocoons, their health directly proportional to the army's overall size. Upon hatching, these larvae provide temporary reinforcements, enabling dynamic battlefield adaptation.

The Swarm's aggressive playstyle is highlighted by its corpse-consuming healing and empowerment abilities, coupled with unique enemy-dependent attacks. This fosters a direct confrontation strategy, offering players a novel and engaging combat experience.
