Space Marine 2 Update Reverses Controversial Changes

by Savannah Feb 08,2025

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's Patch 4.0 nerfs are being rolled back! Following significant player backlash, Saber Interactive is releasing hotfix 4.1 on October 24th, reversing the most controversial balance changes. The studio also announced plans for public test servers in early 2025.

Community Response and Developer Response

The negative reception to Patch 4.0, including negative Steam reviews, prompted the swift response. Saber Interactive acknowledged the criticism, stating that the initial goal was to increase enemy numbers, not necessarily their health, leading to unintended consequences on easier difficulty levels.

Hotfix 4.1 Details

Hotfix 4.1 directly addresses these concerns:

  • Enemy Spawns: Extremis enemy spawn rates are reduced across all difficulties, significantly so on Ruthless.
  • Player Armor: A 10% armor buff is added to Ruthless difficulty.
  • Bot AI: Bots will deal 30% more damage to bosses.
  • Bolt Weapon Buff: A comprehensive buff to the entire Bolt weapon family is included, with damage increases ranging from 5% to 20% across various weapons (see detailed list below).

Bolt Weapon Damage Increases:

  • Auto Bolt Rifle: +20%
  • Bolt Rifle: +10%
  • Heavy Bolt Rifle: +15%
  • Stalker Bolt Rifle: +10%
  • Marksman Bolt Carbine: +10%
  • Instigator Bolt Carbine: +10%
  • Bolt Sniper Rifle: +12.5%
  • Bolt Carbine: +15%
  • Occulus Bolt Carbine: +15%
  • Heavy Bolter: +5% (x2)

Saber Interactive will continue monitoring player feedback post-patch to ensure the "Lethal" difficulty remains appropriately challenging. The introduction of public test servers in 2025 aims to prevent similar issues in the future.
